SLO Color Blast Fun Run

“CHOOSE HAPPY” is a phrase I heard repeatedly at the SLO Color Blast Fun Run at San Luis Obispo High School on January 24, 2015. The day was full of smiles, laughter, and COLOR. The SLO Color Blast Fun Run is held in honor of Alex Maier (#23),  a former San Luis Obispo High School soccer player who sadly died after a car crash in 2013. The fun run was conceived by Maier’s sister, Leah, and helps fund The Alex Maier Memorial Fund & Scholarship. The run celebrates Alex by celebrating life and happiness and encouraging others to “CHOOSE HAPPY.”

In case you’ve never been to a color run, a typical color run is a 5K (3.1 miles) with multiple “COLOR ZONES” where people throw colored corn starch at you. There’s generally 10 color zones that you get to run through during the race.

Both days were filled with an abundance of positive energy, appreciation and happiness. Thank you SLO Color Blast Fun Run and Alex for your inspirational message of Choose Happy. Thank you to the family and friends of Alex for allowing our staff to be a part of this special event and a big thank you to all of the participants and supporters who made a purchase at GH Sports so that 5% of the total would go directly to the The Alex Maier Memorial Fund & Scholarship. You can make donations directly to the fund here. IMG_2083 IMG_2139

If you weren’t able to make it out this year, I highly recommend checking it out next year. It’s a great way to get active with friends and family!!
